The best part is that when Microsoft replaced the image with one made on a PC, the file size bloated from 272kb to 852kb.

Although I do find the first part of the story interesting, I find the last comment irrelevant.
Whoever doctored the new image did not optimize it before uploading it – any image file can be easily compressed, regardless of machine type.
Scott makes a valid point. However, I do find it interesting that a Microsoft employee thinks it is okay to go ahead and bloat the file size. Must be something that comes over you when working on a PC.
